The 13th meeting of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's "Edo Tokyo Kirari Project Promotion Committee" was held

Information

The 13th meeting of the "Edo Tokyo Kirari Project Promotion Committee" was held on November 2, 2021, at 16:00, about a year after the previous meeting.
Unfortunately, Governor Yuriko Koike was unable to attend the meeting due to illness, but the committee welcomed five new members, bringing the total number of committee members to 16. They engaged in a lively exchange of ideas to further develop the project.
The participants reviewed the progress made with the 22 businesses selected and refined over the past 4 years, and reaffirmed the significance of this project under the title "Toward a New Era."
Regarding future development, information was shared on ongoing promotional plans based on the concept of further reinforcing the message of "tradition and innovation" and providing practical experiences while leveraging online platforms. Following the issuance of the Joint Declaration by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the City of Paris in August, the committee plans to accelerate overseas promotional activities and hold exhibitions and other events using historical buildings.
Our company's Representative Atsuro Yamada revisited the origins of this project and shared insights on the current initiatives:
"The first committee meeting took place in December 2016. This project was inspired by the story of the Colbert Committee in France (an organization of luxury brands working to support one another and preserve tradition), as shared by Richard Collasse, then President of Chanel Japan and one of the initial committee members. At that time, our primary focus was to inform inbound tourists about the various attractions in Japan and educate Tokyo residents on the value of traditions. Given the current circumstances, I think it is wonderful that we are thoroughly expanding our initiatives to the outbound market.
It is also important for us to reach out to Gen Z and early Gen Y. We hope to better understand the needs of young people, such as their growing interest in Japanese food, and to make good use of physical and digital media in our approach."
A new member commented positively, stating, "I thought all the brands and traditional crafts under the auspices of this project were excellent, and the project itself was comprehensive and positively developed. "
As for future development, there was a lively discussion about "starting up as soon as possible after the pandemic, like overseas," "establishing small and repeated physical interactions now that there is a growing desire for a real sense of touch," "actively leveraging online connections to enhance global connectivity since inbound tourism is unlikely to return soon," and "involving younger people who are working hard to preserve traditions."
The Edo Tokyo Kirari Project will continue to promote its activities with the aim of making further progress in the future.
